“Loire of Golden sand and of Silver banks”
This quote from Maurice GENEVOIX, beautifully evokes the image of the Loire quiet and cozy in the bright lights of summer.
This space accessible to all, will reveal a multitude of environments and landscapes.
In Cosne, the Loire is shared by a wooded island in two arms of unequal importance.Upstream of the city, extending to other smaller islands, are constantly evolving depending on the whims of this free and lively river.
The Valley borders on the left bank of the "small Loire", very sandy and cluttered with lush vegetation, is protected by an “uppered thrust”.
The 'rios' roam in the bed during low waters.
On the docks, mooring rings testify the intense past activities of the boats in the Loire.Several testimonies carved in stone remind impetuously the overflows of this river in the last century.
The current floods aren’t generally as important but remain a concern.
An unexpected flood in December 2003, almost comparable to that of 1907 by flooding the banks up to 1.60 m high, in Cosne, revived memories of the disasters of the past.
An elegant suspended bridge attached to the city leads to the island of Cosne. The "small Loire" is crossed by a more contemporary item which harmonises a modern profile.
